2020 season update - 23 April 2020

We hope that you, your friends, family and communities are all faring well in these challenging times. Recognising that everyone has new and different priorities, it is right for touch to be taking a bit of a back seat for everyone but we wanted to share some updates.

In March, we shared a COVID-19 update, postponing all events and training. This position remains and we can confirm the following:

  • There will be no Scottish Touch Series (STS) this year.
  • There will be no Scottish Development Series (SDS) this year. The first 2 SDS events, up to the end of July, have been cancelled. The other dates are being held pending future review but they will be stand-alone, open events i.e. not part of a series.
  • Dependent upon a change to current public health advice, we may schedule additional events across the regions. These will be confirmed later in the year.
  • When we do recommence touch, we will be encouraging the use of the new, FIT 5 (trial) rule set. This is to provide feedback on the proposed rules and to prepare for future events, which will be played under the trial rules. There will be training and materials prepared to support referees, players, coaches and others.
  • Given the significant disruption to the touch season, there will be no membership fees payable to the Scottish Touch Association for the 2020 season.

The Scottish Touch Board will review the postponement, in consultation with the regions, on an ongoing basis. Our decision-making process will be informed by government guidance.

It has been great to see the proactive posts and activities across the Scottish touch community. Thanking key workers, virtual training sessions and passing a ball around Scotland then on to New Zealand have all made us smile - thank you.

If you have any questions or ideas, please get in touch.

Take care and stay safe.
