Scottish Touch Planning Day 2018

On 7 October 2018, Scottish Touch held a planning day in Dundee.

We had a great mix of players, coaches, referees, parents and committee members attend and the discussions were informative and full of positivity and enthusiasm.


We promised that we would share the key points with you from the day, and here they are!  We have already put a survey out to get your opinions on the structure of Scottish Touch Series 2019, and will be seeking to get your feedback on a range of things over the coming months.

Key Points from Sunday’s Session:


Coaching 


  1. Clarify coaching director role, confirm in post, communicate

  2. Set up coaching forum on social media

  3. Set up coaches meeting

  4. Develop coaching resources - check what’s available


Communication


  1. Find someone who can help us build the structure of our new website using WordPress.org to set us up for future developments

  2. Recruit a small team to generate social media content across all platforms

  3. Form a committee from regional comms people & academy & uni & national squad to help push messages out

  4. Devise a communication plan



Clubs


  1. Create/advertise Club development officer role within STA

  2. Intermediate/Beginner Level events - Dev Series

  3. Share Knowledge/docs/coaching


Recruitment


  1. Develop one central message that can be used by all parties to promote the sport in Scotland

  2. Geographic map advertising clubs on the new website

  3. Use targeted social media

  4. Use our students & parents more for volunteering opportunities

  5. Task orientated help

    1. Breakdown roles into tasks, agile approach to volunteering

  6. Survey, ask how they can contribute


Youth


  1. Develop Practical/Technical intro packs

    1. Primary/Secondary/Adult

    2. Aim to have this ready for end of March

Event structure for 2019 season


  • Nationals remains single sex with age categories.  To be held in August.

  • A Development Series to be created/expanded from events already held in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling.

  • A one day Student Championships in March 

  • One single sex tournament to replace one of the Scottish Touch Series events

  • Three Scottish Touch Series events.
