Scottish Touch has appointed Martin Macari as National Squad Director.

Scottish Touch is pleased to announce Martin Macari has been appointed to the role of National Squad Director.

It follows David Bartlett’s decision to step down from the role after the Touch World Cup, having had the job since 2011.

Martin alongside Men's 40's captain Ali Crozier at the European Championships in 2014, having beaten England for the Yarrow Cup.

Martin began his involvement with Scottish Touch in 2006, winning his first caps at the European Championships in Edinburgh in 2006 at Men’s Over 35’s level.

He has subsequently played at international level more than 50 times, including being part of the winning Men’s 35’s squad at the Home Nations in 2009.

In 2012, he took on the role of Assistant Coach for the Men’s 35’s, before coaching the Men’s 40’s at Home Nations 2013 and the European Championships in 2014.

Upon his appointment, Martin said the role was essential to move the national squad forwards: “While I was delighted to be asked to become Director of the NSMC, I am under no illusions as to the magnitude of the task.

“David Bartlett did a great job but inevitably the new committee will be expected to take Scottish Touch forward to a new level.

“With the right people in place, I am confident we will do so.

“I really want our players, coaches and managers to be proud to be part of this squad.

“We all have a part to play in that.”
