Edinburgh Open Produces Dead Heat Finish in STS

The 2012 Scottish Touch Series was brought to a close in a day of high drama which saw Galaxy Scotland and Superhands finish top of the standing with the same points score.

galaxy and BBR at the Edinbrigh STSWorthy winners of the 2012 trophy were Galaxy thanks to a better head to head tally between the two sides over the four events, the last of these coming in a pool A match on the day with Galaxy claiming a crucial win.

The defeat left Superhands needing to overcome eventual winners Bareback Riders.  The match stayed close with the score 2-2 at half-time until Barebacks pulled away.  By the time, they reached the final, they were able to put in a sublime team performance with a convincing 6-1 win over the STS champions-elect Galaxy side.  Male MVP Shaun Bengston helped Hot Custard to a creditable third place finish over a strong Six Pack side.
 
With Galaxy's defeat in the cup, Superhands could still top the table but came unstuck 7-5 in the Plate final against a powerful Wigan Touch Warriors side featuring womens tournament MVP Bec Norfall.
 
In the Bowl Final, a star performance by Douglas Johnstone inspired Hoodlums to a 5-2 triumph over Superhands Academy while Blue Jays swept aside Dundas & Wilson, making their maiden STS appearance, 6-0 in the Shield Final.
 
Neil Fitzpatrick added to his National Championships Most Valuable Referee award by being nominated again here, capping off a great return to the sport this season.  The event's support by referees from across Scotland as well as south of the border was much appreciated by all the players and organisers.
