STA President to step down at AGM

30 Jul 2012 @ 11:00 BST

After 5 years as President, Peter Faassen de Heer is standing down at the STA's Annual General Meeting in September. Peter has been at the helm of the organisation through a period of change culminating in the STA's incorporation earlier this year.

Peter FassenPeter said: "I said that I wanted to build on the work of my predecessors and with the help of the STA's office bearers I've done that, leaving the association in a stronger position than before.  We are members of the Scottish Sports Association, have a formal affiliation structure, developed links with Scottish Rugby League and maintained the relationship with Scottish Rugby.  We also now have an emerging youth programme and player coaching has been transformed since I took office."

"I've also been proud to host two major international events as President - the Home Nations in 2009 and, of course, the World Cup last year.  Glasgow Touch Association were instrumental in the former and for the TWC there was literally an army of volunteers who made that happen.  I was so proud to be able to represent the STA and to be the lucky person to receive so many compliments about the way we ran that event."

"But it's time for someone new to take over with fresh ideas on how to take things forward.  I will still be involved but in a more focussed role as well as spending my time coaching, refereeing and even playing - that's more than enough to keep me busy!"
