Want to give something back to the game you love?

The STA is run by a group of dedicated volunteers and will be hosts of the 2011 Touch World Cup in 2011. We are seeking to recruit suitably qualified, enthusiastic volunteers for a number of key posts.

The Scottish Touch Association (STA) is the National Governing body for the sport of Touch (also known as Touch Rugby or Touch Football).

Touch is one of the fastest growing games and one of the few where men and women compete on equal terms.

The posts available are:

  • National Director of Coaching,
  • National Director of Public Relations and Marketing; and
  • Ordinary Committee Member to represent the Glasgow Touch area.

This is a great opportunity to be part of the development of an exhilarating sport in an exciting year.

1. National Director of Coaching

The primary purpose of the National Director of Coaching is to improve the standard of coaching of Touch throughout Scotland and at all levels. This is to be delivered by Regional coaches and the National Director chairs a Coaching Committee as well as providing leadership and motivation to Touch coaches in Scotland.

Together with the Coaching Committee, the National Director co-ordinate the training of new coaches and encourage the development of support networks between coaches in Scotland while developing closer links with the coaching communities of other European Touch Associations and following International Touch coaching standards. The National Director needs to maintain regular communication with the National Head Coach and with the National Squad Management Committee and any other relevant committees to ensure consistent coaching is delivered throughout Scotland.

The post-holder will require effective organisational and motivational skills, strong leadership qualities, and the ability to communicate effectively at local, national and international level. Although not essential, it is desirable that the post holder has an interest or experience in coaching and has knowledge of the game of Touch.

The National Director of Coaching reports to the STA President and the Ordinary Committee.

2. Member of the Ordinary Committee to represent the Glasgow Touch region

The Scottish Touch Association is currently an unincorporated constituted body which is governed by an elected, or, under certain circumstances, co-opted members. The OC members represent the interests of their local area as well as reviewing, questioning and supporting the Office bearers and overseeing the workings of STS sub-committees.

The Committee is made up of individual members but must make decisions as a collective group. This means that each Committee member must be able to commit to upholding the values and objectives of the STA, give adequate time and energy to the duties of being a committee member and act with integrity and avoiding or declaring personal conflicts of interest. In general ordinary committee members are required to attend and contribute to all Committee meetings, devoting the necessary time to prepare for meetings, use their experience to contribute to sound decision-making in the best interests of the STA and make themselves aware of any local and national issues of concern to members from their region, in this instance, the Glasgow Touch region, and ensuring that these are represented at Committee meetings.

3. National Director of Public Relations and Marketing

The National Director of Public Relations and Marketing’s primary role is to build strong sustainable partnerships to improve the financial base and profile of the STA. To do this, the National Director of Public Relations and Marketing is supported by Sponsorship and Fundraising Manager, the Public Relations Manager and the web Manager.

The main responsibilities of the National Director of Public Relations and Marketing are to chair and provide leadership and motivation to the Public Relations and Marketing committee, liaise with the STA Press Officer to ensure that all STA external communications are consistent, well presented and easy to read and that the STA develops strong media relations with national, local and sporting press. In addition, the National Director of Public Relations and Marketing should ensure sponsorship and marketing activity across the STA is co-ordinated and is consistent with the Association’s brand and strategic plan.

One of the STA’s key partners is with Scottish Rugby and the National Director of Public Relations and Marketing is required to attend quarterly meetings with the SRU Director for Community Rugby.

The post-holder will require strong leadership, organisational and motivational skills, along with excellent communication and inter-personal skills to facilitate interactions with partners and sponsors.  It is essential that the person appointed has experience in the fields of sponsorship and marketing, have media and communications experience and be aware of the core values associated with the sport of Touch. The National Director of Public Relations and Marketing reports to the STA President and the Ordinary Committee.
