Scottish Touch Series 2010

14 Sep 2010 @ 11:00 BST

The series concluded at the Edinburgh Open on 11th September, where once again a strong field of teams gathered to contest the final Scottish event of the season.

After taking maximum points from previous series events, it was only just mathematically possible for Edinburgh based Six Pack to throw away their lead. Making no mistakes they sealed victory in the series with the full set of trophies, defeating hosts Bareback Riders in an exciting Cup final. Four out four Cup trophies bring to the end an amazing season for this young club, who should be very proud of their investment in developing exciting young players in the game of Touch.

It's been a fantastic season, and special mentions are also due to a number of teams for adding to the excitement and making some of the top 10 places a close run thing. Hailing from Glasgow, the Geckos made second spot their own in their debut year with consistently high scoring, demsontrating the rising standard in their region, helped by the number of players who've established themselves in national sides. Behind them in 3rd position we have another Edinburgh side, Superhands. Possibly the fastest growing club side in Scotland they've made huge strides forward from their debut year in 2009. Aberdeen are very well represented in the STS, with clubs from the Granite City finishing 4th and 5th. Guerillas just pipping their local rivals Leopards to 4th spot in what has been a close battle all season between two very evenly matched clubs.

Outside the top 5 we had last years champions, Meerkats, who started fantastically with runner-up spot in the first two events. Unfortunately they didn't manage to compete in the second two events, but with that start they held onto 6th place. Glasgow Lions demonstrated consistency across all four events and have risen a couple of places to 7th this year. Our adoptive Scots from Newcastle, Sage Blackadders, finished in 8th. Another team only competing in the first two events, Stirling's Wallace Monumentals, held onto 9th spot and for join 10th we had Fingers and Edinburgh Open runners-up Bareback Riders.
