Breaking News!
National Championships 23rd & 24th August 2008
The STA and NSMC are pleased to announce this year’s National Championships to be held at Stirling University, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August 2008.
Following the success of the inaugural championships in 2007, the National Championships are expected to draw an exciting mix of ages, skill levels, experience and a passion for the sport from across Scotland as the regions compete for the championship title. This is also an opportunity for individuals, as the championships are the basis for selection to the Scotland squad and going on to represent our country at international competitions.
The structure of this year’s two-day championships will ensure full 40-minute games and allow for additional recovery time so teams, players, referees, selectors and organisers can give their best. We will also look to hold the Scottish Touch AGM on Saturday evening, followed by a function. Details of this will be confirmed at a later date.
It’s time to get into touch – STA and SRU announce agreement as season kicks off
It’s time to get into touch in Scotland, with the 2008 season kicking off and Scottish Rugby working in partnership with the STA to grow the sport.
Summer touch leagues and tournaments are underway across Scotland. This season there will be more games, players and events than ever before as the country builds towards the European Championships in July and towards hosting the 2011 Touch World Cup in Edinburgh.
Scottish Rugby and the STA have also announced a Partnership Agreement and subsequent action plan as they unite their efforts to increase participation in touch and raise the sport’s profile across Scotland. For more details, please read the
press release.

STA Recruiting a National Director for Development
The STA has today opened invitations for a
National Director for Development. This person will help create new opportunities to play touch and where sought assist local tournament organisers in the further expansion of existing competitions and help provide pathways for development of participants. The individual will also look to develop a youth structure with the help of existing partners including the SRU. The post will initially be filled on a voluntary basis but may become part or fully funded at some future date.

Scotland squad for the Euros announced
The Scotland squad for the 2008 European Championships has been named. The six teams can be viewed
here.
Robbie McKenzie, of the STA’s National Squad Management Committee, said:
"We are delighted to have recently announced the selection of six strong squads for participation at the 2008 European Championships. With six teams, the Scotland squad will probably be the largest national squad participating at the championships, which is evidence of the high standards now being achieved in the touch leagues across Scotland.
“The hard work must now continue as we close in on July. This is without doubt the most competitive and professional Scotland national squad ever put together for a major championship, and we have high hopes of success in Paris. With a high-quality player base and a very strong coaching set up, it's an exciting time to be involved in the national squad."
The squad was chosen after a six-month selection process. The STA announced training squads after regional sides played each other at the Scottish National Touch Championships, in Stirling last September. Those squads trained over the winter before playing trials in late March for places in the final squad.
