Policy Statement – Cash Prizes
The Scottish Touch Association does not approve or support the awarding of cash prizes in touch tournaments or leagues in Scotland.
The reasons for this are as follows:
1. Any money given away as prizes may be better invested in other areas for the development of the game.
2. High value cash prizes may raise registration fees for Tournaments and Leagues resulting in making the sport less accessible. This would run counter to our mission statement "Touch - A Game for all".
3. The STA does not regard individual or team monetary rewards as key values of the Strategic plan. These are Fairplay, Enjoyment, Health, Achievement, Accessibility and Involvement.
4. The effect of having a cash prize to compete for encourages the best players to group together. At tournaments where the numbers of teams are restricted this would exclude the lower level players from meaningful participation.
5. The effect of having "cash at stake" would place an unfair and unsustainable expectation on developing tournaments, organisers and other volunteers.
"In-kind" Prizes that are not cash re-deemable are acceptable.
